Storage Units in Longmont - Garage Sale Tips Part 2

Read part 1 first!

Continuing on from pricing, we reach another highly important facet of a successful garage sale: presentation and marketing. Think about the last time you went to a garage sale and how you found it. Buy poster board and balloons and securely post presentable-looking signs over a few mile radius around your home—and don't forget dates and directions. If you aren't artistically inclined, consider asking a friend to help make your signs. This is important; if you imbue them with a sense of professionalism, you'll be more likely to attract customers.

Also, don't forget the internet. You can reach a much wider audience if you advertise on sites like Craigslist and Facebook, starting a week or two before the sale date.

The Sale Area

Make sure your sale area has mirrors for customers who want to try on clothing items, a comfortable seating area (consider a tent) for anyone those customers have dragged reluctantly along with them, and working electrical outlets. To reiterate from part 1, make sure that every item has a price tag. Be ready to negotiate on those prices by setting some rules beforehand about how flexible you're willing to be.

Some Final Points

-On the subject of money, be prepared with lots of coins and bills beforehand. You don't want to run out of change halfway through the day. Make sure you are always keeping track of the money you earn, and keep it secure.

-Consider asking a friend or family member to help you out during the busier hours, so your customers don't leave in frustration due to long wait times.

-Have an abundance of some kind of wrapping material on hand so that any fragile items can be sold and handed off with confidence.

-Gather tarps or old bedding beforehand so you can use the ground as a staging area for sale items.
