Storage Units in Longmont | Cleaning Up Before You Move Out of Your Self-Storage Unit

Self-storage units provide a convenient and affordable way to store your belongings. However, when it's time to move out, you'll need to clean the unit before returning it to the rental company. This can be a daunting task (especially if you've rented a larger unit), but with preparation and proper procedure, it can be done in a relatively short amount of time. In this blog post, we will discuss the supplies you'll need and the steps you should take to clean your self-storage unit quickly and efficiently! Bear in mind that at many facilities (especially those of the drive-up variety), cleaning expectations are limited to sweeping and removing any residue or stains. But for those renting from a stricter, potentially-indoor facility, the following procedures may be appropriate.

Supplies:

-Broom and dustpan

-Mop and bucket (or a self-contained mopping system)

-All-purpose cleaner

-Disinfectant wipes or spray

-Paper towels or rags

Procedure:

-Start by sweeping the floor with a broom and dustpan. Be sure to get into all the corners and crevices. Depending on the facility, do not use a power washer as water may seep into neighboring units.

-If there are any spills or stains on the floor, clean them now with a mop and bucket (or self-contained mopping system) and all-purpose cleaner.

-Use a cloth or sponge to wipe down the walls, starting at the top and working your way down.

-Next, move on to cleaning the inside of the door (both sides). Wipe down any shelves, racks, or other storage fixtures.

-Finally, clean the outside of the door. If there is a keypad or other security device, be sure to wipe it down with disinfectant wipes or spray.

That's it! With these simple steps, you can easily clean your self-storage unit. Just be sure to allow yourself enough time for the task.
