Storage Units in Longmont | Keeping Your Storage Unit Safe

If you're like many of us, you have a lot of belongings that simply don't fit in your home. You may be considering renting a self-storage unit to give yourself some extra space. If so, it's important to take the necessary precautions to keep your belongings safe and intact while they're in storage. In this blog post, we'll discuss some tips for keeping your possessions safe while you're renting a self-storage unit.

One of the most important things you can do to keep your belongings safe while they're in storage is to buy a good quality lock for your unit. A padlock may be sufficient, but we highly recommend using a disc lock (which we provide for free at rental). Disc locks cannot be cut using bolt cutters, which makes potential thieves much less likely to target your unit. You should also make sure that the facility you're renting from has good security features in place, such as gated access and security cameras.

Another important consideration is whether or not to buy insurance for your self-storage unit. Your homeowner's or renter's insurance probably covers your belongings while they're in storage, but it's always a good idea to check with your insurer to be sure. In the event you don't have renter's or homeowner's insurance, many storage facilities will offer self-storage insurance. Call ahead to find out if the facility you're considering offers an insurance policy (which will usually be tacked on to your monthly payment).

By following these tips, you can rest assured that your belongings will be safe and protected while they're in storage. So if you're considering renting a self-storage unit, be sure to keep these things in mind. Thanks for reading! We hope this post was helpful.
