Storage Units in Longmont | Tips for Organizing Your Home Kitchen

A well-organized kitchen can make meal prep easier and faster, help you keep track of what you have on hand, and even make your kitchen look bigger and brighter. Follow these tips to get your home kitchen organized and functioning at its best.

Start with a clean slate. Before you can really start organizing your kitchen, you need to clear out the clutter. Get rid of anything you don't use, expired foods, and move appliances that are taking up counter or cabinet space out of the way for the time being. Once you've decluttered, give everything a good deep cleaning. Wipe down all surfaces, wash dishes and silverware, and clean any areas that have been neglected such as the spaces at the margins of your fridge, oven, or dishwasher.

Divide and conquer. One of the most important things to do when organizing your kitchen is to create zones for different activities. Most kitchens have four main activity centers: food storage, food prep, cooking, and cleanup. By designating specific areas for each activity, you can make your kitchen more efficient and functional. For example, store all of your food storage items in one area so you know exactly where they are when you need them. Keep spices within reach of the stove so you can easily add them while cooking. And keep all of your cleaning supplies near the sink so they're easy to grab when it's time to tidy up.

Make use of vertical space. When it comes to storage, many people forget about vertical space. But shelves and cabinets aren't the only places where you can store things in your kitchen – make use of walls by hanging pots and pans on a pot rack or utensils on a magnetic strip. You can even install hooks to hang aprons or oven mitts within easy reach. Utilizing vertical space frees up valuable real estate in cabinets and drawers for other items.

A well-organized kitchen is not only more pleasant to work in but can also save you time and money by helping you keep track of what you have on hand and keeping expired foods from taking up valuable space in your fridge or pantry. Use these tips to get your home kitchen organized and functioning at its best!
